Lisa Archer – Grades Faculty Representative
Ms. Archer grew up in Indiana but headed to California for college where she got her Bachelor of Arts with distinction in Psychology from Stanford University. During her years at Stanford she trained at Bing Nursery School focusing her studies on early childhood development. After graduating from Stanford, she worked for 10 years in early childhood education in the San Francisco Bay Area. She also trained in illustration and graphic design at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. After doing web design in Portland, Oregon for two years, she decided to return to teaching by completing her Waldorf Teaching Credential through Rudolf Steiner College in 2000.
Ms. Archer is the teacher who graduated Tucson Waldorf School’s first Grade 8 class (in 2007). She also serves as faculty representative to the board. In her free time she enjoys doing arts and crafts, and contra and swing dancing.
Margery Bates – Ex Officio
Margery was born and raised in Philadelphia. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from Wesleyan University. After college, Margery moved to New York where she worked in educational television and documentary production for PBS. She worked for the BBC as an associate producer for news and cultural events for a number of years before moving to Tucson.
In Tucson, Margery shifted her work to nonprofit management and administration. She worked at the Arizona Cancer Center and volunteered at Planned Parenthood. Her first introduction of Waldorf Education was at a Waldorf Playgroup when her children were only 18 months old. She immediately became involved in the Waldorf community. In a short time, this involvement blossomed from parent to volunteer to administrator. Margery is in her tenth year as administrator of TWS and feels so fortunate to be a part of such a dynamic and engaging community.

Jennifer O’Brien – Early Childhood Faculty Representative

(originally submitted on www.greatschools.org):
“We have chosen the Tucson Waldorf School for our children for many reasons. The strong curriculum develops true understanding of natural law, language, mathematics and interpersonal relationships. While rooted in the science of human development, the use of beautiful music and art promote a sense of magic and delight all lost to most education models today. The practical skills of gardening, handiwork, construction and physical movement round out each child’s ability to achieve.
The Waldorf model supports our belief that primary education is only the threshold to a beginning of lifelong learning. The most important reason is that we believe somebody can be happy and successful in this world only if they learn to measure themselves by internally derived principles. With the guidance and commitment of incredibly talented and dedicated faculty, in full partnership with us as parents, our children are able to use their minds, hearts and will to develop at their unique and individual best! “
