*The Original Individual Tax Credit maximum amount that may be taken for tax year 2012 is $503 for single, unmarried head of household and married filing separate filers and $1,006 for married filing joint filers. The maximum credit amount that may be taken for tax year 2013 is $517 for single, unmarried head of household and married filing separate filers and $1,034 for married filing joint filers.
**The Transferring Credit (a.k.a. Switcher Credit) may be claimed when you have contributed the maximum amount allowed for your filing status to the Original Individual Tax Credit and your tax liability is equal to or higher than the total amount you are claiming for both credits. To find out if you can claim the Transferring Credit, refer to the line on your most recent tax return called “Balance of income tax.”
***A school tuition organization cannot award, restrict or reserve scholarships solely on the basis of donor recommendation. A taxpayer may not claim a tax credit if the taxpayer agrees to swap donations with another taxpayer to benefit either taxpayer’s own dependent.
