Lynn St. Pierre presents Wilma Ellersiek’s work designed for the young child. Her finger plays and movement games include gesture\, rhythm\, rhyming verse\, full body movement and singing in the mood of the fifth. We’ll do a variety of games including loving touch\, dancing hands\, seasonal plays and delightful movement games. These games demonstrate great wisdom in supporting healthy sensory development. The plays may be woven into the fabric of your family life creating a more harmonious and joyful atmosphere throughout the day and night. We hope you will come for the morning to learn delightful finger plays and movement games that will engage your children in the most wonderful ways! \nLynn St. Pierre is a well know presenter\, sharing her work on early childhood developmental movement at conferences\, teacher trainings\, workshops and parent educational events throughout the world. SUMMARY:What's the Big Deal About Screen Time\, Anyway?
DESCRIPTION:To receive the full benefit of a Tucson Waldorf School education\, parents are asked to carefully consider the effects of media and screen engagement\, particularly for children under age 9.  Without media\, children learn how to self-initiate play.  Eliminating media helps get away from the entertainment paradigm of parenting and schooling\, and supports development of emotional self-regulation\, an essential capacity for success in school and beyond.  As parents\, our job is to hold back the tide of popular culture\, which is very shallow and full of violence as well as early sexualization.  Media\, and even the act of using media\, primarily shows examples of how to be fulfilled by looking outside yourself.  Our hope is for our children to learn how to connect with us\, each other\, and themselves.  This takes time and opportunities. \nOpening the dyke “a little” to media and popular culture is nearly impossible.  It’s a culture that is very easy to penetrate because it is so shallow.  We want our children to have a deep well from which to draw from.  This well is created by offering images\, stories\, and experiences that are worthy of our children’s imitation.  Children’s work is play and we must offer them true and rich imaginative images and experiences.  This even applies to educational programming.  According to Piaget\, once a child is “taught” something\, we forever take away their opportunity to learn it for themselves.  This is why in Waldorf schools we often hear the phrase that we teach children how to learn not what to learn. \nAn abbreviated look at how screens affect children on a physiological level in several ways: \nEyes: The light disrupts melatonin production leading to poor sleep. 2D screens alter normal eye muscle movement which is what influences visual and vestibular (balance) development\, cognition\, and mood. \nBrain: Our brains are evolutionarily designed to respond to visual input related to brightness\, color\, contrast\, and movement.  This is called the orienting response.  This response helped us flee predators.  Media uses artificially created stimuli to activate this response.  This creates chemical\, electrical\, and mechanical shifts in the body that raise cortisol.  Regardless of content\, media use puts us in Fight or Flight. \nBody: Blood flows away from the gut and reproductive organs toward the limbs and heart during media use. It increases heart rate and blood pressure.  It is inducing our flight or fight response.  Research shows this happen regardless of content. \nTucson Waldorf School is dedicated to nurturing each child’s capacity for creative imagination\, independent thinking\, and positive action. The school’s efforts to foster students’ healthy emotional development and meaningful relationships with their environment and other people are undermined by encounters with media that separate children from authentic experience and promote a distorted\, developmentally inappropriate\, and consumerist view of the world. The impact of media exposure is passed on to other children\, reverberating through the community and showing up in other children’s play\, attitudes\, language\, and inner life. \nWe are all working on our relationship to media and our goal is to build a supportive community where we can all work together to help each other and our children on this journey. \nSome excerpts above summarized from book\, Reset Your Child’s Brain: A Four Week Plan To End Meltdowns\, Raise Grades\, and Boost Social Skills by Reversing the Effects of Electronic Screen-Time by Victoria L. DESCRIPTION:Tucson Waldorf School has an incredible opportunity to raise corporate low-income scholarships for qualifying families on Giving Tuesday. Any tax credits directed to Tucson Waldorf School through Arizona Tuition Connection on Tuesday\, November 30 will be matched dollar for dollar with a scholarship for qualifying applicants from TWS. \nTo give you an idea of what’s possible\, if 50 families direct a $1000 tax credit to Tucson Waldorf School or a specific student\, $50\,000 in corporate low-income scholarships would be earmarked for students at TWS. \nTo direct a tax credit\, click HERE. \nIn the spirit of assisting others on this Giving Tuesday\, Arizona Tuition Connection is\nexcited to announce that they will match any donation received on Tuesday\,\nNovember 30th\, with an equal scholarship to assist a low-income family at our school.\nHOW IT WORKS:\n1. Donors make Tax Credit Donations on Giving Tuesday\, November 30th\, 2021.\n2. Donors can recommend your family to receive the donation.\n3. Separately\, Arizona Tuition Connection will match the donation by sending a scholarship of\nan equal amount to support a different (low-income qualified) student at our school.\n4. These donations qualify for a dollar-for-dollar tax credit off the donors AZ State taxes\,\n(married couples can donate up to $2\,435\, while singles can donate up to $1\,219). \nArizona Tuition Connection allows donors to make recommendations\, but the matching funds will be pooled and given out to low-income students at your school who have applied to Arizona Tuition Connection.   The matched funds will NOT go to the student recommended by the donor.    \n\nDonations must be made on November 30th\, 2021\, to be matched.\nFor any scholarships to be awarded\, the student must have applied to Arizona Tuition Connection for the 21/22 school year and be eligible to receive low-income corporate scholarship awards according to the rules established by the State Dept. of Revenue.\nPlease contact Arizona Tuition Connection at 480-409-4106 or info@arizonatuitionconnection.com  with any questions.
