Alumni Profile: Kayla Wang, Class of 2003
by Olivia Hansen
Kayla attended Tucson Waldorf School from preschool through 5th grade. She has a beautiful little hair salon in midtown Tucson, and she and her husband have two children. Her oldest child, Luna, attended Quail’s Nest classes in 2020 and started in the Red Rose classroom this year with Nicole Williams. This is particularly special because Kayla had Ms. Nicole as an assistant teacher when she was in kindergarten!
Kayla loves bringing her daughter to the beautiful school that has evolved so much since she was a Waldorf student, herself! The school has done a lot of “growing up” and the community has changed a lot, she says. Kayla remembers a much smaller, tighter, rag-tag group of parents and teachers trying to keep the school afloat. Now, though the school may not have that same scrappy, all-hands-on-deck feel, it is much more calm and organized, and has beautiful spaces where Luna can learn and play. As Kayla said the last time we interviewed her in 2019, there is nowhere else she can imagine Luna going to school, and she is so happy to be back at Tucson Waldorf School. Kayla is looking forward to her second child, Lennon, getting started in kindergarten in the next few years, as well!
