Sara Alcázar Silva was born in Michoacán, México, and grew up at the border of Sonora and Arizona, which instilled an interest in cross-linguistic and cross-cultural communication. Her love for language learning and teaching led her to obtain her BA with a double major in Spanish Translation & Interpretation and French Language, Literature & Culture from the University of Arizona. She then enjoyed teaching and designing Spanish, French, ESL, and medical and legal translation courses there. Her work in the classroom inspired her graduate research in which she developed new teaching methods that aim to give students space to foment their agency and creativity while still promoting language awareness, and fostering their use of the language as a means to empower students as whole human beings.
After completing her MA in Teaching French as a Second Language and a PhD in Second Language Acquisition, she felt drawn to Waldorf education because its foundation supports learners’ development holistically, and she believes that language learning should too.
On the weekends, you can find Sara performing at Tucson Improv Movement where she wears many hats such as artistic director, coach, and instructor. She finds that the improv “Yes, and…” philosophy permeates all aspects of her life, and helps her better communicate, collaborate, and be her most genuine self.
Sara is very excited and grateful to join Tucson Waldorf School’s vibrant and inviting community.
